WoW Upgrades - The Item Upgrader

Upgrades provide a guaranteed boost to specific stats. Each upgrade boosts the level of an item by 3. A random substat is also added to each upgrade.

The more modernized gear generally has a greater value for trade, unless it has inherently low requirements (like the FB shield of the sorc) or has a high stat variation (like Eth titan weapons). The latter are less valuable from upgrading due to the necessity to roll for a perfect model.

Recycle Points

The item upgrader allows players to upgrade gear to a higher item level upgrade (related resource site) level by providing the appropriate currency to the NPC. Upgrades can be applied to any type of weapon or armor. The item used to upgrade the item is discarded and cannot be used again. Upgrades can also be used to create enchantments.

The upgrader is located in every major city, and can be accessed at any time to upgrade your gear. To ensure that your equipment is up-to-date, it is recommended that you visit the upgrader every couple of weeks.

Upgrades will cost more, based on the item level, however, they are always cheaper than purchasing new gear. For example upgrading a Benthic chest to 385 ilvl will cost 20 recycle points while purchasing the same item from another player will costs 105.

Valorstones

Upgrades are useful items that can be used to level up weapons and tools, armor and accessories. They can be purchased by players through item upgrader NPCs in exchange for various currencies, and may also be found in random treasure lists. Once an upgrade is purchased, it can be used on any weapon or tool with a button, which displays an item's preview when it is upgraded in the event that the player has enough materials.

The cost of upgrades varies based on the item upgrade slot and the current level of the item upgrader kit and the weapon's price is higher than gloves or bracers for example. Each step costs 15 Flightstones and a variety of crests, with some upgrades offering discounts to reduce the cost of the Flightstones or crests that are used. After an item has been upgraded to a certain degree, it can be downgraded and sold to the upgrader for a lower price.

Many locations offer item upgraders, including the main Island and some outposts. The NPCs offer both an upgrade discount and a chance to acquire a new upgrade recipe. The upgrade discount increases with the number of items that are being upgraded. It can also be increased by having players complete some specific achievements or quests.

Contrary to Cromwell in Baldur's Gate II there is no upgrader for items available in the beginning of Icewind Dale. Instead the NPCs that can be used to upgrade require a variety of means which is both an improvement as well as a disadvantage.

In Season 3 the upgrade system has been tweaked a bit, with numerous new features added. Once an upgrade has been completed to a certain item level for an armor slot upgrading other items to the same level, will cost less. This is true even if those items are from a different set of equipment.

The discount applies to all accounts. The amount of Harbinger Crests needed to upgrade is cut too, but it is only available when certain milestones are reached.

Crests

Players have several options when it comes to upgrading their equipment in WoW. Flightstones are an option that is accessible to everyone who wants to upgrade. Crests are more specialized and are utilized during specific item level upgrades. Crests are an important element of the Dragonflight Gear Progression System, which was introduced in version 10.1. They come in four ranks.

The first thing to be aware of is that crests can only be used to purchase equipment that is of a particular rank, and that every rank has different requirements for its upgrade path. The simplest and easiest upgrade costs 15 crests. The most complicated upgrade requires up to 20 crests, based on the type of equipment that is being upgraded.

Players can earn crests through working through content at the appropriate level. The new currency system isn't difficult to use, but it brings some changes to the upgrade process. For instance, once a piece of equipment reaches the highest level of upgrade for any rank (Explorer, Adventurer, Veteran, Champion, Hero, or Mythic) it will no longer require Flightstones to be upgraded. This change is intended to allow players to upgrade their equipment up to the highest ilvl possible for all their characters instead of relying only on seasonal loot.

It's also essential to use crests with care, since they have only one purpose. It's best to use your Whelpling-rank Crests on the best gear that you can find and keep Drake and Wyrm Crests to be used for the next set of upgrades. This is particularly true for items like trinkets and rings that occupy multiple slots on the character which can only be eligible to avail the account-wide discount if all of the slots are full of high-quality equipment.
