Path of Exile Item Upgrading

The ability to upgrade items allows players to enhance their weapons and gear with new affixes, boosting the base stats of the item or adding additional perks. To upgrade an item, the player needs to have it in their inventory and have access to the kiln.

Items that have weak bases, such as rings can be upgraded to more robust bases. Items with strong bases, such as eth Titans have little changes in their stats.

Upgrade components

Upgrade components can be added to armors, weapons, trinkets, and gathering tools. They can be used as an attribute bonus or extra effect, while the equipment is being used. They can be purchased from vendors, or found as loot gathered by enemies or obtained from missions and chests. Certain upgrades come with additional cosmetic effects. Most upgrades require that the equipment be above a certain point before they can be upgraded.

In order to upgrade the quality of a weapon or piece armor, the user must select it and then click the Upgrade button on the toolbar. This will display on the right-hand side of the screen a preview showing the expected upgrade statistics and the necessary component or materials.

There are three kinds that are universal upgrades (which include gems), prefix upgrades, and suffix upgrade components. Universal upgrades, like gems, can be used on any kind of equipment. They offer a lower bonus than upgrade components that are subject to a type restriction. Infusions, which can only be placed in ascended gear or legendary equipment, are the same as jewels but provide larger bonuses and cannot be placed in any other kind of equipment. Suffix upgrades, which can be placed in gathering tools, will add their names to the end of the name of the Best item upgrade they are attached to, for instance adding a Glyph to an item that is a Staff Wrapping of Minor Vigor would make it a Canthan Staff Wrapping of Minor Vigor.

If a player upgrades a gathering tool, and replaces the glyphs with a different one the old one will be returned to their inventory. If you replace any other upgrade component with a glyph, it will be destroyed, except for the inscriptions, which can be freely swapped.

Leveling

The upgrade system in Path of Exile has some important changes from earlier versions. Gear is now divided into tracks and items can be upgraded a certain number of times before they're "leveled out." The cost of upgrading increases with each level up however, the materials needed don't increase as much. This allows players to concentrate their efforts on a handful of essential items and maximize their impact, instead of spreading the upgrade costs across several items.

This will enable the item to receive new upgrade components and a higher chance of success. This bonus is known as the Artisan’s Energy and it resets to 0 if an upgrade item fails or increases when the upgrade succeeds.

Each upgrade step will require a specific amount of Flightstones or Crests, depending on whether the item is at its current level and in what slot it is located in. Typically, weapons will require more Flightstones to upgrade than other kinds of equipment.

If an item is not able to reach its max level the NPC will offer players the option to transfer it to a different character and re-infuse it with another set of upgrades. The process can take as long as two hours and costs the same amount of materials however it will result in lower chances of success.

Engineers utilize a level to compare the height of the building with a known location, such as an existing benchmark. This method is known as a "level loop." It involves taking readings using the backsight rod and the level and then turning the level and taking the foresight rod reading. Rerolling
