How to Repair Bifold Door Top Roller Guide

If your bifold doors are sticking to the wall, they might need a little maintenance. They could need to be cleaned or lubricated, or even adjusted. The issue could be caused by a loose bolt at the top pivot or by the top guide roller.

Remove the Door

This will let you double check the guide spacing and alignment to ensure everything is set up properly. If the guide is positioned properly and is functioning in the way it should then the final step will be to put the door back in place. Remember that any screws or pins you removed or loosened should be replaced and tightened properly when you're done.

Remove the Bottom Pivot

Bifold doors are a beautiful addition to any home, but sometimes they require some tweaking or adjustment to remain in great shape. While some of the less critical issues can be fixed with the doors in place, other issues will require removal. This guide will teach you how to take off the internal bifold door pins, rollers and pivots.

The first step is to gather your tools. You'll avoid frustration if you collect all your tools in advance. You'll also need a screwdriver and pliers. A set of basic tools can be bought at a reasonable cost from a local hardware store. It's also a good idea to keep some wood glue handy. This will be useful when you need to put the rollers in their place.

After gathering your tools, open the bifold door and loosen the top track bracket using your screwdriver. Once the bracket is free, you'll be able slide the door off of the top track. It might take a bit of shaking but it should eventually pop off the track.

This can occur after adding carpet or other flooring materials that require the doors to be raised slightly to allow for adequate clearance. Removing the pivot adjustment screw on the bottom, loosening the top track's mounting screws and moving the anchor/pivot pin typically enough to eliminate this issue.

A new set of top roller guides is a low-cost solution to a problem that could make bifold doors difficult to operate. They're usually available at your local hardware store in the door section, but they're also accessible on the internet through a variety of suppliers. You will also need a squeeze-clamp and a small container of Elmer's wood adhesive which can be found in large box stores.
