UPVC Replacement Door Handles

The handles on your doors wear out with time and require to be replaced. It is important to match the dimensions of the old handles when replacing them.

Lever Pad

The choice of cylinder is crucial. It is based on the use that your doors and handles receive. For example, external doors should be fitted with a higher security cylinder, while doors inside can be secured with a standard cylinder. Certain cylinders come with extra features that increase security, such as anti drill or anti bump properties.

To ensure that the euro cylinder is of the right size for your door, it must be measured correctly. The cylinder must be measured from the screw hole in the center to the ends of the cylinder. This includes the thumb turn, should there be one. If you cannot measure using the lock in its position, you can remove it. A cylinder that protrudes beyond the handle and escutcheon may be susceptible to attacks like snapping locks, therefore it is crucial to make sure it's not too long.

The design of most newer cylinders has anti-drilling and bump resistance features. They are designed to minimize the chance of attack by forcing cylinders to rotate in a different direction. This will help to stop the attack and ensure your doors are secure.

There are also cylinders that are made to withstand snapping. This is a growing type of attack on cylinders, where the break line in the lock is targeted using a special tool to snap off the front of the cylinder and allow the door to open. This is a lot faster and more straightforward than opening the door with multipoint locks and leaves little evidence of a break-in which can impede the insurance claim.

Spring Cassette

The spring cassette is positioned inside the base of the door handle backplate providing a sprung solution to return your multipoint lock handles to their normal position after using. There was a time when handles did not have a spring built into them, and without it they are more likely to slide or 'drop' once the locking mechanism has been disengaged. The addition of this simple element is one of the most effective ways to fix this and it is also a great way to prevent your upvc doors from getting stuck in the open or closed position, as these aren't always easy to close manually.

These spring cassettes were created to be used with sprung multipoint lock. They are not compatible with handles that are not sprung, and you will have to cut a hole into your backplate in order for them to fit. (Please see the image for a detailed diagram).
