Upgrades give a guaranteed boost to specific stats. Each upgrade increases item upgrades level by 3. A random substat is also boosted alongside every upgrade.

The more modernized gear generally has a greater value for trade as long as it meets low requirements (like the FB sorc's shield) or a very high stat variation (like eth titan weapons). Upgrades are not as useful for the latter due to the requirement to roll an exact version.

The item upgrader lets players upgrade their gear by giving the currency to an NPC. Upgrades can be applied on any type of armor or weapons. However, the item that is used to upgrade will remain in use for a long time and cannot be used again. Upgrades can be used to create Enchantments.

You can upgrade item your equipment anytime by visiting the upgrader in any major city. To keep your gear current, it is recommended that you visit the upgrader each couple of weeks.

Upgrades can cost more based on the level of the item, but they will always be less expensive than purchasing new equipment. Upgrades such as upgrading a Benthic chest up to ilvl385 will cost you 20 recycle points. If you purchase a similar item, it will cost you 105.

Valorstones

Upgrades are items that can be used to upgrade tools, armor, weapon, and accessory upgrades. They can be purchased by players through item upgrader NPCs in exchange for a variety of currencies, and can be found in random treasure lists. Once an upgrade is purchased it can be applied to any weapon, tool, or armor using an button, which will display an image of the item at its next upgrade level when the player has enough materials.

The cost of upgrades varies based on the item slot and the current item level and the weapon's price is higher than gloves or bracers, for instance. Each upgrade costs 15 Flightstones plus a set number of crests. Some upgrades give a discount on the Flightstones. Once an item is upgraded to a certain level it is able to be degraded and returned to the upgrader for a lower amount of both currencies.

Many locations have upgraders for their items, including the main Island and a few outposts. The NPCs provide both an upgrade coupon and the possibility of getting the latest recipe. For instance, when an item reaches the highest level of upgrading for any rank (Explorer, Adventurer, Veteran, Champion, Hero, or Mythic), it won't require Flightstones to be upgraded. This allows players to upgrade their equipment to the highest possible ilvl for all their characters rather than relying on seasonal loot.

Another important change is that crests have one use, so it's important to make use of them in a responsible manner. It's best to put your Whelpling-rank Crests on the top-quality equipment you can find and keep Drake and Wyrm Crests to be used for the next set of upgrades. This is particularly relevant for rings and trinkets that take up multiple slots on the character which can only be eligible to avail the account-wide discount when all of the slots are full of high-quality gear.
