We asked Ladina Schopf - an interior designer, architect, and the founder of LS Projects - for her suggestions on how to pick the right one. We looked at storage capacity, layout and energy efficiency among other factors.

GE Profile Counter Depth French Door Refrigerator

The name of the series suggests that the GE Profile series is aimed at consumers who want to incorporate cutting-edge technology into their kitchens. But these flourishes don't mask mediocre performance, especially in the refrigerator's freezer and an ineffective temperature-controlled drawer. The GE PGE29BYTFS Smart Refrigerator includes the full suite of features you'd expect from a refrigerator in this price range that includes Wi-Fi as well as app support through GE's SmartHQ software. The app, which is available for iOS and Android devices can let you control your fridge from anywhere in the world, and has numerous options for customization. It is designed to look like a seamless piece of your kitchen, Bosch's French-door refrigerator is one of a kind. The fridge uses fingerprint-resistant stainless steel, which is a great feature for busy households. It also features a veggie compartment that keeps vegetables and fruits fresher for longer periods, and two compressors to preserve food. The ice maker is one of the most efficient we've ever tested and produces pyramid-shaped ice that is low in water consumption. This refrigerator is a great option for a single family or kitchenettes looking for a sleek design and top-of-the-line food preservation.

This refrigerator was rated as the top in our Refrigerators Test for several reasons. Its freezer temperatures held firm at a level that was just above 0 degrees Fahrenheit and never fluctuating more than a fraction one degree. This is crucial in preventing freezing burn. The fridge section of the fridge also performed well, achieving the desired initial set temperature within a matter of hours and keeping that temperature steady over the course of our tests.

Bosch is a household name for its high-end appliances. Therefore, it's not a surprise that Bosch counter depth refrigerator is one of them. It has a sleek, fingerprint-resistant stainless-steel finish and features thick handles that make them comfortable to grip. The fridge is built with a standard French door design, and two rows of shelves that can be used to capture spills and a set of crisper drawers. The top right shelf can be folded down to give taller items more room. There's also a full-width drawer for products from the deli and an inside water dispenser.

This refrigerator has a freezer with an ice maker making it easy to transfer the ice when needed. The freezer has thoughtful design elements, as well, such as sliding drawers that help to organize the place of items. It also has a huge bin that can hold plenty of frozen food items as well as an additional storage bin for ice.

The LG Counter-Depth MAX fridge is an excellent option for those looking to combine the look and feel of a French-door refrigerator with an efficient design. Its capacity is above average for a counter-depth model and it cools evenly and has a great layout. It's also a bit cheaper than the top counter depth refrigerator with an ice maker, which makes it an attractive option.

Frigidaire Counter Depth french door fridge plumbed Door Refrigerator

This Frigidaire French door refrigerator is a good choice when you're looking for a French door fridge that won't break the budget. It's a simple fridge which may not be as attractive as some of its competitors, but it still has enough features to make a good choice. Its most notable characteristic is the adjustable temperature drawer which helps keep food items like veggies and meat fresher for longer. It also comes with a huge water and ice maker dispenser.

The "Chill Drawer", which is situated over the two crisper bins, is a great feature. This drawer allows you to use a portion of your fridge's cooling power into the area so that you can keep food items that require extra attention. You can alter the feature using a slider that's located right in the middle of the drawer. You can also use this feature to adjust the general cooling settings for the entire fridge but I've noticed that adjusting the general settings tends to be more effective than specific ones.

In my tests, the refrigerator's temperatures were fairly constant across the different areas of the refrigerator. The temperatures in the top and bottom of the fridge didn't vary very far from 38 degrees, and even the middle of the fridge was within one degree of 36. That's a good performance however it doesn't be among the top in our ratings.

This fridge has a few other neat features, including a temperature-monitoring display that alerts you to fluctuations and provides a forecast for the day ahead. This fridge can be paired with a smart thermostat to gain more precise information on the internal temperature of your fridge.
